Recycle Week 2012

recycle week 2012

Recycle Week 2012 begins tomorrow, with this years theme being the promotion of recycling plastic bottles. Councils, businesses and green leaders across the UK will be highlighting the need for recycling all the plastic bottles you use on a day to day basis. Events throughout the nation will be held to answer any questions you have and give guidance on all things recycling, with games and free giveaways also available at some events.

Details of Recycle Week can be found on the Recycle Now website including where to find Recycle Week events near you. As this years theme is the recycling of plastic bottles here’s some interesting facts on plastic bottle recycling from the team at Recycle Now;

If the 15 million bottles used each day were recycled it would be the equivalent of taking 73,000 cars off the road annually – that’s over half the number of cars entering London on any week day.

90% of all UK local authorities now offer collection facilities for plastic bottles either from your kerbside collection scheme or at recycling centres.

It only takes 25-two litre plastic bottles to make an adult-sized fleece.

If all of us in the UK recycled just one extra plastic bottle during Recycle Week, this would save enough energy to power over 71,000 plasma screen TVs for a year.

Recycling plastic bottles is easy, as long as you use the "wash and squash" rule before putting out for recycling, you can really make a difference in recycling and reuse in the UK. So next time you go to throw out that bottle, think recycling!
