The rumours have been circulating for a while but it has now been officially announced that Windows 10 will be available as a free upgrade for existing Windows users. But, time is of the essence! Microsoft have stated that users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will be able to access the free upgrade for one year only after its release on the 29th of July.
Microsoft is promising a revolutionary operating system with a big collection of new features for both businesses and consumers. With everything from Cortana (a sort of ‘Apple Siri’ equivalent) to the brand new ‘Spartan’ browser and xBox app there is a wealth of new things to try.
It is a sad fact that Windows 8 certainly hasn’t been the most popular operating system. In fact, it was so poorly received that many people chose to stay using Windows 7. Have you tried to set up an email folder in Windows 8? Even the simplest tasks just don’t feel intuitive or cohesive – an area where Apple pretty much has the market covered.
So what does it mean for your business? Well, firstly, what will probably affect you the most is that support for Windows 8 will end pretty sharpish – just like its predecessor Windows XP for which support has now ended, Windows 8 support is likely to end by mid 2017 or move to extended support such as Windows 7 has. It really is an important investment with Microsoft promising to provide life long support (the computers life).
Secondly, a big software upgrade such as this offers the perfect time to update your hardware or even finally purchase some new equipment for your company. After all a workforce who are waiting for a slow PC to load up are not productive! Pure Planet Recycling offer a complete WEEE and computer recycling service. From the point of collection to destruction we provide our clients with a full audit trail. When it comes to computer recycling we understand that one of the main concerns for our business clients is security, which is why our computer disposal service also includes secure data destruction and on-site hard drive crushing if it is required.
We’ve talked a few times recently about how fast moving technology is making our computers, laptops and phones seem redundant much sooner than a few years ago. Even though it might seem like Apple are on a mission to take over the world the reality is that Microsoft still have the lion’s share of the business market and Windows 10 is an attempt to keep them at the top of their game.
Don’t be caught with out-of-date operating systems or years old desktop computers. Now is the time to jump on the bandwagon and the first step is out with the old and in with the new – which is exactly where we step in. If you want expert advice and an efficient, friendly and knowledgeable team to help you with your recycling needs then Pure Planet Recycling is most definitely for you.
